Michigan has 16 electoral votes. The National Popular Vote bill passed in the Michigan State House in 2008 by a 65-36 margin.  It must now pass the State Senate and be signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder (R).

A  Dec. 2008 survey of 800 Michigan Voters showed 73% in favor of the National Popular Vote for President.  There is renewed interest in getting this passed in Michigan 2016 / 2017.  In addition, the hotly contested presidential race has motivated a third party candidate, Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party, to sponsor a recount of the votes in Michigan—keeping this issue on everyone’s mind.
